Female business owner in one-on-one meeting with an independent insurance agent.

How Should I Prepare for a Meeting with My Agent for My Business Insurance Policies?

After receiving information about the upcoming renewal of your business’ insurance policies, you reached out to your independent insurance agent and set up a meeting to discuss your coverage. Now what? Do you need to prepare anything for this meeting?

In order to have a productive meeting with your Independent Agent, it’s a good idea to prepare a few items. For business insurance policies, it’s best to prepare by taking the following steps:

  1. Evaluate your business income coverage needs. To do this, consider a situation in which your business is unable to continue operations for a period of time. How much business income would be lost each day the business was closed? This per-day amount will help determine your business income coverage level.
  2. Make a list of any changes that occurred in the last year or that may be coming in the next year that could impact your insurance coverage. This list may include: buying new equipment, changes in payroll, changes in sales, new contracts, changes to your fleet of vehicles, driver changes, and building changes.
  3. Prepare a list of any questions you have about your insurance coverage.

After considering these items, you will be well prepared for your meeting with your independent insurance agent. Your Independent Agent may also have suggestions regarding what information you can prepare. To find your agent’s contact information, you can use our ‘Find an Agent’ tool here.
